Songbooks
Here are two of the most useful bluegrass songbooks ever, one very new and the other a classic, both by Pete Wernick.
The JAM Songbook, created by Pete and Liam Purcell for the Junior Appalachian Musicians after-school program in four southern states, has many practical features not in other songbooks: Largest possible print, chords given in the number system (lets the singer choose the key) easy transposing chart, chord diagrams for all instruments, and online playlist to easily learn the melodies by ear. Its low price, case-friendly size, and 39 standards in large print make it a natural to keep in your case and share.
The Bluegrass Songbook, in print since 1976, has 140 standards, melodies presented in easy tab, and is the only bluegrass songbook to offer instruction on singing — in the words of all-time bluegrass singing greats: Lester Flatt, Ralph Stanley, Bill Monroe, Jimmy Martin, Charlie Waller, Hazel Dickens, Peter Rowan, Red Allen and more. Extensive appendices on harmony singing, phrasing, pronunciation, songwriting, much more.
…and more!
Let folks know you’re into bluegrass — just by what you wear, and put on your car or case!
